Meet the Founder of Nirvana Surf Therapy & Programs Director, Candice Hague, M.Ed, RCC

Candice is the Programs Director & Women's Surf Coach for Nosara's only Billabong Surf Camp, offered through Safari Surf School in Costa Rica. She has partnered with Safari from beautiful Vancouver Island, BC, Canada to develop unique programs that integrate surfing, yoga, adventure, therapy, meditation, and so much more!! Motivated by her own connection with the outdoors and wildlife, Candice's curiosity to explore the power and numerous benefits of connecting with self, others, and nature led her to pursue her Masters of Education in Counselling Psychology. She is a Registered Clinical Counselor and the founder of a holistic counselling and consulting practice, Nirvana Counselling. She continues to offer Skype and Phone counselng worldwide to help people overcome numerous emotional and psychological issues, and assist people in achieving greater health and wellness in their lives. Candice has been surfing for over 7 years and realized not long after starting, that surfing is so much more than a sport that is super fun and has physical benefits. What became more and more apparent was the huge psychological benefits that surfing has to offer. While people are improving core strength & balance, flexibility, and getting a great cardio workout, they are also having to be present and mindful of everything going on around them. The numerous physical, emotional, and mental benefits can be experienced all while having fun doing so! What Surf Therapy offers is an opportunity to utilize these experiences to overcome other obstacles in your life such as low self-esteem, fears, anxiety, relationship issues, and much more. Her holistic, strength-based approach integrates mindfulness-based techniques, adventure therapy, and cognitive behavioural techniques. She has also been trained as a surf coach in San Diego, California. Her varied professional background, coupled with her love for surfing and connection with the ocean has given her the inspiration to develop programs that utilize the ocean, surf, and nature in order to facilitate opportunities for personal growth, fulfillment, and inner peace. Candice is excited to share her love and passion for surfing, yoga, and meditation, and looks forward to helping you learn how to surf and achieve greater health and wellness in your life.
